Lacroix Private Lab is seeking a Medical Biology Service Manager to join its team.

Reporting to the Laboratory Director and working closely with the two Assistant Managers, the successful candidate will be a hands-on manager, present on the shop floor and involved in daily operations. As Head of Service, you will play a strategic role in the management and development of our laboratory operations, while actively contributing to team engagement and the continuous improvement of our services.

 

Your Role

As Head of Service, you will be responsible for:

• Planning, coordinating, and ensuring the smooth daily operation of the laboratory in collaboration with the two Assistant Heads;
• Supervising, motivating, and supporting the teams, particularly in scheduling, onboarding, training, and employee development;
• Maintaining an active presence on the floor, supporting the Assistant Heads, and intervening in the resolution of operational issues;
• Providing occasional support to the technologists on the floor when operational needs require it, particularly during of unfilled absences after using the recall list, during busier periods, or in unforeseen situations;
• Ensure the achievement of quality, performance, and efficiency objectives, as well as compliance with regulatory standards and requirements;
• Participate in continuous improvement, process optimization, and various laboratory development projects;
• Collaborate in the management of equipment, supplies, and material resources;
• Ensure effective communication and collaboration with internal and external professionals, managers, and partners;
• Support the operations of the transportation department, including the coordination of activities, schedules, and the management of daily issues and unforeseen events.

 

The ideal candidate

We are looking for someone with solid experience in a medical biology laboratory, who Understands the realities of the field and is comfortable working in a constantly evolving environment.

• Diploma of College Studies (DEC) in Biomedical Laboratory Technology;
• Member in good standing of the Professional Order of Medical Technologists of Quebec (OPTMQ);
• Minimum of five years of laboratory experience, ideally including two years in supervision, coordination, or management;
• Experience in various laboratory sectors or a good understanding of their operations;
• Inspiring leadership, autonomy, initiative, and excellent organizational skills;
• Ability to adapt to change, manage multiple priorities, and quickly find solutions to unforeseen events;
• Good knowledge of quality standards and requirements applicable to medical biology laboratories;
• Management training or equivalent relevant experience is an asset;
• Experience in project management, Process optimization or continuous improvement is an asset.

 

A Role at the Heart of Operations

This position is not limited to administrative management. We are looking for someone who wants to be an integral part of operations, work in collaboration with the two assistant managers, and provide concrete support to the teams.

The position is primarily daytime. Occasional evening or weekend availability may be required to ensure business continuity and support the teams when necessary.

This availability is generally provided remotely, by telephone, and is shared with the assistant managers as part of a collaborative operations management approach. If you are a hands-on manager, familiar with the realities of the laboratory, and wish to play an active role both with the teams and in the field, we would like to meet you.

 

Schedule

• 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, daytime hours;
• Occasional availability, shared with the assistant managers and primarily remote, to ensure continuity of operations outside of regular hours when required;
• Occasional travel, 1 to 2 times per year, within the Montreal area.

 

Compensation

$110,000 to $130,000 $000, depending on experience, profile, and skills.
