Job Summary
The Controller is responsible for leading the company’s accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, budgeting support, cash flow management, and compliance activities. This role provides timely, accurate financial information to senior leadership and helps strengthen financial discipline, operational performance, and decision-making across the organization.
Reporting Relationship
The Controller reports to the Vice President of Finance and works closely with department heads, operations, external auditors, tax advisors, and other business partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll functions
- Perform month-end closing (e.g., reconciliations, prepaid expenses, accrued expenses, depreciation, etc.)
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, management reports, variance analyses, and key performance indicators
- Maintain and improve internal controls, accounting policies, procedures, and documentation to protect the organization's assets the company and reduce financial risks
- Lead budgeting, cash flow planning, and financial analysis to support strategic and operational decision-making
- Process tax returns (e.g., sales tax reporting) and respond to government inquiries
- Coordinate and participate in the year-end audit
- Supervise and develop accounting team members, ensuring deadlines are met
- Support ERP/accounting system improvements
- Perform special projects, various financial analyses, and other tasks assigned by senior management
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field
- 5+ years of progressively responsible accounting experience in a controller, assistant controller, or manager role Accountant or similar position
- Strong knowledge of financial reporting, internal controls, budgeting, cash flow management, and tax compliance
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel
- Bilingualism in French and English is essential
- Experience with Sage 300 software is preferred
- Experience in an industrial environment is an asset
- CPA designation is an asset
